2016 Sand in the City
What do you get when you mix tons of sand, countless gallons of water and hundreds of talented and determined volunteers? The answer: Some pretty impressive sand sculptures.
The Baxter Auto marketing team took part in the 2016 Sand in the City competition last Friday. The weekend-long event is held to raise awareness and funds for the Nebraska Children’s Home Society. Participants had six hours to build up the sand and then carve it down into the massive design previously planned out. Baxter’s design, called “Spotless,” involved a car as its centerpiece, of course.
For the 2016 Sand in the City event, 18 different teams competed – that means there was 375 tons of sand in the Baxter Arena parking lot. The competition part of the event was on Friday, then on Saturday professional sand sculptors took over and made their own works of art. The sculptures were up all weekend for the public to take a look.
