If you’re looking for a fun summer convertible, you’ve found it. With a price that’s hard to beat among convertibles – the starting MSRP sits at $24,995 – the 2017 FIAT Spider 124 is worth it.
I took one for a long, Nebraska drive to truly experience the roadster. I got the chance to take a Classica trim level with the added technology package out for an extended joy ride. The larger touch screen was a very nice addition for the drive. And in such a small car with a fairly simple interior, it gave my passenger something to play around with a bit.
The Classica offers cloth seats while both of the other trim levels, the Lusso and Abarth, offer leather. The Lusso sports leather-trimmed seats. The Abarth has leather and microfiber seats standard. After a couple hours in the cloth seats, I still felt completely comfortable. The FIAT has fairly small and tightly bolstered seats. Two pieces that I think made me that much more comfortable on a longer drive.
The 2017 FIAT Spider 124 Classica I drove also had an automatic transmission. While this may take some of the fun out of driving, it did make the longer drive a little simpler. The standard six-speed manual transmission Classica would be a blast to drive.
The 2017 FIAT Spider 124 truly shines when you put the hood down. It’s a great looking car both ways. But, to truly experience the joy in this joy ride, putting the top down was a necessity. The top is manual, but it’s super lightweight and beyond easy to put down and pop back up. It takes only a few seconds and you’re off again.
Check out just how incredible the 2017 FIAT Spider 124 Roadster looks out on Nebraska highways. It looks like this Italian car was made for Midwest Driving.
