Subaru completely redesigned for the 2017 model year. The longest-lasting vehicle in its class is still as reliable as ever, it just got a facelift. 97% of Impreza vehicles sold in the last 10 years are still on the road today. And that number isn’t going anywhere. The redesigned 2017 Subaru Impreza features more high-strength steel for long-lasting quality. Every 2017 Subaru Impreza sold in the US is also going to be built in the US. Right in Lafayette, Indiana.
We borrowed a 2017 Subaru Impreza for a weekend to test out the redesigned features. We happened to have it during a midwest winter storm, but it turns out, that’s great Subaru weather. The snowstorm at the end of February gave us a wonderful chance to really test out the all-wheel-drive system, the boxer engine and the EyeSight® technology available.
The Impreza is wider, longer and lower than before; giving passengers more room. Add its great fuel economy – the Impreza will get up to 38 mpg – and Subaru’s symmetrical all-wheel drive. Subaru’s Boxer Engine helps give it a comfortable, speedy ride. More than 40 years of performance created the Boxer Engine and it shows. When you’re behind the wheel, the new Impreza is a lot of fun to drive.
The tech in the Impreza is very impressive. The Subaru Starlink system is very intuitive – from navigation and all sorts of apps to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The 8-inch touchscreen is plenty large enough to easily see and designed to keep you from getting distracted while driving.
The three screens in the Impreza offer more information than you could ever need, all at the touch of a button. The infotainment touchscreen, the LCD Multi-Function Display and an Instrument Cluster with full-color LCD Display. Each one offers multiple screens worth of information. The LCD Multi-Function Display even shows the adaptive cruise control settings and when a car is close enough to engage the system.
The list of safety features in the 2017 Subaru Impreza is pretty extensive with EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology. EyeSight® monitors traffic movement, optimizes cruise control and helps keep you in your lane. Lane keep assist is new in the 2017 Impreza and it can even steer you back into your lane if you drift. LED steering-responsive headlights, high-beam assist, blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert also make your ride that much safer.
All of these safety features (and more) make for a great ride. Especially in snowy or rainy weather. Having the blind-spot monitor and the cruise control options made driving in a midwest blizzard warning calmer than usual. We didn’t have to worry as much about the traffic around us because of the all-wheel drive and EyeSight®.
